Summer Programme 2007

All events are at the Chipping Hall, unless shown otherwise. Doors open 7.30. Music starts around 8.

Sun 6 May  Peter King with the house trio £7 (£5)
Peter King

Famous for playing (as a teenager) at the opening night of Ronnie Scott's, a truly remarkable career since then has seen Peter King work with many top names on the international jazz scene (too many to list here), as well as lead his own highly-regarded ensembles. Many accolades have been bestowed along the way; from the Melody Maker 'New Star of 1959' to the 2005 BBC Jazz Award for Best Instrumentalist. We've managed to persuade Mr King to stop off on his way home from an appearance at Cheltenham Jazz Festival. This will be a very special evening.
"The finest alto saxophonist that Britain has ever produced" - Dave Gelly in The Giants of Jazz
"one of the best alto players in the world" - Chan (wife of Charlie) Parker

Sat 19 May  Jazz Cafe £2.50 (£2)

Come along and do all those things you'd get thrown out of any other jazz club for doing. Well maybe not all of them, but do turn up when you fancy, bring the kids, feel free to chat, go to the bar, join in or leave whilst the house trio play. Or make them nervous by requesting an obscure tune, or just listening...

Sun 3 Jun  Jason Rebello Trio £8 (£6)
Jason Rebello

One of this country's finest jazz pianists, Jason arrived on the 1980s scene in style - with a debut album produced by Wayne Shorter - and was voted Wire Magazine's best newcomer of 1988. Other major awards followed, and a catalogue of critically acclaimed work, both with his own trio and other well-known artists. In more recent years he's played with Sting, appearing on several of his albums and tours, and with Jeff Beck. Jason's regular trio is completed by Arnie Somogyi (bass) and Stephen Keogh (drums) - two of the finest rhythm section players to be found anywhere. A real class act.
The band will be busy during the afternoon:
2.00-3.30pm Music skills workshop for people of all ages and abilities - no instruments required
4.15-5.00pm Family concert for primary-age children, friends and family.

Sat 16 Jun  Jazz Cafe £2.50 (£2)

Sun 1 Jul  Mystery Guest with the house trio £7 (£5)
Special Guest

Okay, it's guessing-game time. We've secured an appearance by a very big name guest - a world-class jazz musician - on the understanding that we don't say who he is - at least not until nearer the date. (If you knew who it was, you'd be as excited as we are.)
Wotton's own Tony Orrell will be filling the drum seat for the evening, with Katie and Martin doing their usual piano and bass thing.

Sat 21 Jul  Jazz Cafe £2.50 (£2)

Sat 18 Aug  Jazz Cafe £2.50 (£2)
