Sat 20 Jan  Jazz Cafe
|
£2.50 (£2)

Our monthly Saturday-night gathering has proven a success, so we’ve decided to make it a
permenant fixture. For those that haven’t been along, it’s a chance to let your hair down,
meet and chat with friends, and sample the delights of our excellent bar - all to the
sounds of live jazz from our resident trio (plus the occasional guest). And all at a very
reasonable price.

Sun 4 Feb  Askew and Avis
|
£7 (£5)
|
Using only the voices of Rebecca Askew and Jeremy Avis, together with the ‘live looping’
wizardry of Robin Whitnell, A&A create a musical world unlike any other. The two vocalists
bring a diverse range of influences to the project: Jeremy was a Canterbury chorister who
has since travelled the world, studying indiginous musics. Rebecca is an experienced jazz
singer, and a writer and performer of musical theatre. Both are members of the acclaimed
all-vocal group The Shout. Workshop for singers of all ages beforehand.

Sun 4 Mar  Mike Outram
|
£7 (£5)

One of the most respected and sought-after guitarists in the country, Mike’s discography
reads (as they say) like a who’s-who of the current British jazz scene. He’s also very
busy as a music educator, holding professor-ships at a half-dozen colleges, including
Trinity and the Royal Academy. A must for anyone who wants to see jazz guitar playing at
its best. Workshop for guitarists of all ages beforehand.
"Outram is a guitarist with world-class credentials." - The Guardian.

Sun 1 Apr  Abram Wilson & The Delta Blues Trio
|
£8 (£6)
|
A unique chance to see an undoubted rising star of the jazz world. From New Orleans via
London’s Tomorrow’s Warriors stable, trumpeter, singer, composer and band leader Abram
Wilson comes to Wotton, bringing with him the Delta Blues Trio (Errol Linton: harmonica,
Giorgio Serci: guitar and Neil Charles: double bass). A regular member of first-class
ensembles such as the Soweto Kinch Quintet and Jazz Jamaica, Abram’s recent debut album
Jazz Warrior, drew rave reviews - not least for his vocal talents. The DBT is part of a
larger commission, premiered at this year’s Cheltenham Jazz Festival, which traces a journey
from Mississippi Delta blues to modern-day ‘urban’ jazz. Workshops for young people
(10-18yrs) beforehand.
"Sensational. My album of the year." - The Independent.
